ROY HAMMONDS Obituary
Roy Lee Hammonds, age 80, of Leland, NC, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 24, 2013, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Roy was born on February 13, 1932, in Wilmington, NC, son of the late Ethel Harper Hammonds and William Roy Hammonds.
Roy was an avid hunter and longtime member of the Colley Creek Hunting club. He enjoyed fishing and spending time outdoors with his family.
Including his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Hammonds, Bobby Hammonds and Donald Ray Hammonds and a sister, Josephine Potter.
Roy is survived by his wife of 51 years, Shirley Skipper Hammonds; sons, William Roy Hammonds and Terry Hammonds; daughters, Elizabeth Ottaway, Debra Buenrostro, Sandra Hammonds, Becky Freeman and Pamela Palacios; sisters, Carolyn Whitley and Merlene Gupton; 15 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be held at 2:30pm on Monday, January 28, 2013, at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Home, 3915 Oleander Drie, Wilmington, NC, 28403.
Graveside Service will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1311 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington, NC 28412 with Pastor Robert E. Lee and Rev. Andy Ottaway officiating.
Pallbearers will be Robert Hammonds, Larry Dove, Ronnie Dove, Roland Lehrschall, Quenten Lehrschall and Charles Calhoun. Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of the Colley Creek Hunting Club.
The Staff of Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Roy Lee Hammonds.

Sorry for your loss. Roy Lee was a good man, I fixed and mounted several deer heads for him over the last 30 years. I enjoyed him visiting my tavidermy shop and talking about all his deer and outdoor adventures.Our prayers will be with you and your family. Roy Johnson

The Hammonds family lived on Oakley Road in the Wrightsboro/Castle Hayne area years ago near our family. They were a good, hardworking family.
