Maxine Freda Borchers, 88, of St. Augustine, died peacefully on Sunday, July 26, 2009, at Moultrie Creek Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Union City, Ind., and grew up in Ohio. She played the trombone in the Randolph High School Band in Dayton, Ohio. In the 1980s Maxine moved to Merritt Island, Fla., and had resided in St. Augustine since 1989. Maxine was always a "take charge" kind of person, even in her later years, serving as president of the Residents Association at Moultrie Creek. She was a member of the Lutheran Church and the Eastern Star.
She is survived by daughters, JoAnn F. Borchers of St. Augustine, Joyce E. McGourk of Mableton, Ga.; and sons, Jerry N. Borchers and John C. Borchers, both of Tipp City, Ohio, and James A. Borchers of Mason, Ohio. She also leaves nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. this morning at St. Johns Family Funeral Home, with the Rev. Steven Giannetta officiating. Another memorial service will be held a Moultrie Creek Nursing & Rehabilitation Center at a later date.
