William A. Vogel

Plover - William A. Vogel, 83, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at home on January 31, 2021.

A Mass of a Christian Burial for Bill will be held at 11AM on Friday, February 12, 2021 at St. Bronislava Catholic Church - Plover. Rev. Edward Shuttleworth will officiate. Friends and family may gather to share memories from 9-10:30AM at the Shuda Plover Funeral Home - 2400 Plover Rd, Plover, WI on Friday before the mass. Burial will be held at the parish cemetery. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, masks and social distancing will be required at both the funeral home and church. The Funeral Mass will be streamed live on St. Bronislava Catholic Church's YouTube channel "St. Bron's Media".

Bill was born on July 24, 1937 in Appleton, Wisconsin, the son of Rueben and Frances Vogel. He was raised in Menasha, WI and graduated from St. Mary's Catholic High School in Menasha.

On May 5, 1962 he was united in marriage with Marliese Mahr at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Neenah, WI. They were happily married for 58 years.

Bill received his Bachelor's degree in History and Education from UW-Oshkosh and his Master's degree from UW-Stevens Point. His first teaching job was in Coleman, WI. From 1969 to 1995 he taught in Stevens Point, first at P.J. Jacobs High School and then at Stevens Point Area Senior High. For several years, he was Chairman of the Social Studies Department at SPASH. He was also an assistant football coach under Jerry Fitzgerald.

In his younger years, Bill played basketball and softball in the Stevens Point and Plover recreational leagues. He loved hunting and fishing and enjoyed his grandchildren's sports activities.

He is survived by his wife Marliese Vogel, 2 daughters Stephanie (Mike) Mulleady, Karlene (Craig) Giese, and one son Greg (Katy) Vogel. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Jason Higgins (Kayla), Dr. Kristi Gwidt (Brandon), Clayton Giese, Calvin Giese, Meridyth Vogel, Mason Vogel, 3 great grandchildren, Hudson and Connor Gwidt and Brynnlee Higgins, sister-in-law Joyce Vogel and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Rueben and Frances Vogel, granddaughter Madelynn Vogel, sister and brother-in-law Marianne and Gordon Peters, sister and brother-in-law Janet and Don Holverson, and brothers Jim and Tony Vogel.

In lieu of flowers, donations will be directed to the SPASH Scholarship Fund.
