Samuel Spaulding Obituary

Samuel "Rush" Spaulding passed away peacefully on Monday, September 10, 2012 in Rancho Mirage, California. His wife, Maureen Johnson Spaulding was by his side; he was 95 years young. Born on August 2, 1917 to Abraham and Rose Rosinsky in Brooklyn, New York; Rush was a strong and determined man from a young age. He served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1946 and attained the rank of Captain. Following his service, he married his first wife, Penny Spaulding, and proudly founded his company, Fabricote, in Los Angeles, California. He married his second wife, Maureen Johnson on December 19, 1994 at the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada. While Rush had no children, he adopted Maureen's family as his own including her daughter Debra Anne Vermoch, her son-in-law, Glenn Vermoch and her grandchildren Pierce Elizabeth Ingle and Campbell Johnson Ingle whom he loved very much. With his generosity and commitment to education, Pierce attended Fordham University in New York City and Campbell attended the University of British Columbia in Kelowna, Canada. Rush was admired for his business ethic, where an agreement was made by the shake of a hand. Across Palm Desert, there were countless evenings where Rush's voice would light up a room and the hearts of those around him. His friends and family will remember him as a philanthropist and strong advocate of alternative medicine. Rush and Maureen belonged to the Springs Country Club where they played many games of golf and enjoyed the company of their friends. A private family service was held at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale, California on Monday, September 17, 2012. In lieu of flowers it was Rush's wish to have charitable contributions made to Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage and the Braille Institute of America. Here's to good health Rush, you will be missed yet never forgotten, Nostrovia.

One of the most upstanding gentlemen I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I think he was a role model for how to live a rich and fulfilling life! Rush treated everyone was the upmost respect no matter if they were presidents of a major corporation or a busboy at a local restaurant. This great man will be greatly missed, but his legacy will live on for a long time. My deepest sympathy for Maureen and his family.

I metSam the first year i started selling fabrics in 1950. When he started Fabicote I was one of his early fabric suppliers. He was a gentleman of the highest ethics.
It was a pleasure to have him as a friend. I did not know he retired to the desert. I have lived in Palm Desert since 1995, sorry we did not get together here.
