Robert Palacios Obituary

Edinburg - Robert Palacios, husband, father, grandfather, and retired FBI special agent passed away Thursday, April 22, 2021, at his home in Edinburg in the loving company of his wife, Minnie Rangel, and his three children Vanessa Palacios, Robert Adrian Palacios, and Cynthia Medina.

At 74 years, he lived a remarkable life. Known to many as "Bob" or "Beto", he grew up in Pharr raised by parents Anastacio and Lilia Palacios and was often found next door at his Tía Anita Ayala's enjoying her cooking. After graduating from Pan American University (now UTRGV), he joined the FBI, serving our country as a special agent for more than 30 years. His work at the Bureau - and the people he worked alongside - were among his proudest accomplishments.

Later in life, he felt fortunate to connect with his two siblings, Alfredo and Ernestina Compean. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling (especially to Hawaii); coffee with friends and cousins; spending time with his three grandchildren, Lily, Nathan, Oliver; and relaxing with dogs Dulce and Maui and the many cats his daughter rescued. Brave and humble, smart and caring, he valued family, God, and the power of a Post-It note. He will be deeply missed; he was one of a kind.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., with a 6 p.m. rosary today, April 25, 2021, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton Rd. in Edinburg. Funeral mass will take place at 2 p.m. Monday, April 26, 2021, at Sacred Heart Church, 215 N. 16th St. in Edinburg.

Pallbearers will be Margarito Palacios, Dr. Tony Esparza, Jose L. Pedraza, Refugio Isaguirre, Judge Bobby Contreras, Rudolfo Jimenez, Leo Rangel, and Rudy Jimenez; honorary pallbearers are Mario Palacios, Harvey Gagne, and Frank Del Angel.

Cremation will take place at Memorial Cremation Center in Edinburg.

The family requests all COVID 19 guidelines be followed.

Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.

I only had the pleasure of working with Bob for a few years, when, as a young FBI agent I was transferred to the El Paso FBI Office. Bob was one of the friendliest people I've ever met, with an ever-present smile. Shortly after I moved to El Paso, Bob transferred to the Valley. However, in our office, we spoke fondly about Bob for many years and how we missed him. I still remember Bob getting up very early every morning and running many miles from his home to the office. Luckily, we had a shower in the old Federal Building. Rest In Peace Bob.
