Herbert Raymond Miller

1930 - 2021

Herbert Raymond Miller was born in Farwell, Michigan to Helen & Leon Miller on August 6, 1930. He passed away on June 8, 2021 at North Wood Nursing Center in Farwell. Herb spent most of his life living in Farwell, graduating from Farwell High School in 1948. Herb was a veteran of the Korean War where he served as a Radio Repair Instructor. He returned to Farwell and married Phyllis Miller (Loomis) in 1952. They were married for more than 50 years. After Phyllis's death on March 2007, Herb met and married Judy Coon. Judy provided Herb with love and care throughout the last years of his life. One of Herb's first jobs as a teenager was with the Ludington Ferry System. As an adult, Herb worked alongside his brother-in-law, Bud Loomis, at Shear Hardware as a co-manager and repairman, operated a gas station in Farwell, drove bus for Farwell Schools and eventually began working as an assistant cashier with the Farwell State Savings Bank in 1968. He later came to serve as the bank's President and Chairman of the Board of Directors retiring in 2016. Herb was an involved community and family member. Some of his best friends were his brothers-in-law and sister-in-law as well as his brother Howard and sister Ruth. Herb loyally attended his children's and later his grandchildren's sporting and school events. He enjoyed dancing and taught each of his grandchildren how to line dance as well as how to swim. Herb enjoyed hunting and sharing the first day of deer season with his sons was a family tradition. Herb was a member of the Free & Accepted Masons for more than 50 years and a veteran of the Korean War. Herb was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Phyllis, sister Ruth Reiss, brothers Bobby, Paul, and Howard. In addition to his wife, Judy Miller, Herb is survived by one sister Dorothy Dunkelburger, his sons, Mike Miller (Vestaburg), Rick Miller (Farwell) daughters-in-law, Sandra Miller & Val Miller, grandchildren Aaron Miller, Andrea Cherry, Ryan Miller, Heather Wentworth and Kristina McConnell as well as 8 great-grandchildren. A funeral service is planned for Sunday, June 13th, 2021 at 1PM at the Campbell Stocking Funeral Home in Farwell. Pastor Connie Bongard will officiate. Family and friends may visit on Saturday, June 12th from 2:00 until 5:00PM. Please consider memorial considerations in lieu of flowers to the Clare County Community Center in Farwell, Michigan.
