Jacob Spencer Obituary

Jacob (Jake) Andrew Spencer

Jacob (Jake) Andrew Spencer lost his life in a tragic accident near McCloud, California on November 8th, 2009. He was nineteen years old. Jake was born in Eureka, California on August 7th, 1990. He attended Washington Elementary School, Zane Middle School, and graduated from Eureka Senior High School, class of 2008.

Jake enjoyed working at the local market, video store, and guest house where he currently resided in McCloud. He even got to help play chef a couple of times which was a childhood dream of his. He also enjoyed autoshop and was constantly working on one of his vehicles. He was one of those guys that believed that anything could be fixed with a can of WD-40, vice grips, and a roll of duct tape. As a self-proclaimed oakey, he liked to consider himself “King of the Doublewide.” On his days off, he could usually be found outdoors hunting, mobbing, or hanging out by the river. Jake was pretty much down for whatever as long as he was with his friends or family.

Jake will always be remembered for his kind heart, his generous nature, his fierce loyalty, and his boyish grin.

Jake had recently decided to join the Army. He was sworn in at MEPS in Sacramento, California on October 7th, 2009. He was planning on returning home for the holidays before departing to Fort Leonardswood, Missouri in February 2010. He was well on his way to becoming one of our Nation’s finest, but to those of us who knew and loved him he was already a hero.

Jake is survived by his parents Lori Arrington and her husband Larry, Mark Spencer and his partner Julie Brimm, his sisters Brooke Spencer and Paige Lyons, step-sisters Macey Lyons, Bridgette and her husband Jake Guthrie, their daughter Kyla and his step-brother Phillip Arrington and Max Brimm. He is also survived by his grandparents Sandi and Jim Bella , grandparents Sherrill and Darryle Story, his great-grandmother Doris Hastings, great grandfather Robert Pearce, his aunt and uncle Lisa and Linus Lorenzen, and close cousins Ashley, Brett, Caprice, Kale, Jaycee, Linus, and Lacey. He also leaves behind countless other family members and very close friends (you all know who you are). He was preceded in death by his grandfather Kenny Pearce and great-grandmother Jean Pearce, great-grandfather Chuck Hastings, great-grandparents Howard and Lois Vancleave and Leo and Darleen Spencer.

A memorial service will be held Friday, November 20th at 1pm at Grace Baptist Church located at 220 Buhne Street in Eureka.

In Lieu of flowers we have established a Scholarship fund in Jake’s honor through Eureka High. Please make checks payable to Eureka High Memorial Jacob Spencer fund.

Jake,
It's been two weeks since we found out that we lost you. All of us (your dad, mom, Larry, Brooke and myself) are still trying to figure out how to deal with the fact that we will never be able to see you, touch you, or speak to you again. We miss you every minute of every day. You are forever in our hearts and we love you so much. I miss your smile and rosy cheeks~ You were not legally my stepson but I never thought of you in any other way than my son. I LOVE YOU and miss you beyond words!

To Jake's family,
I went to school with Jake from elementary at Washington through our trying times as the new kids at Zane, and then the triumph of graduating high school. We grew apart by the time high school came along, but I always remember his beautiful smile and how nice he was when we played on the playground at Washington. His sparkling eyes will always be with me and I hope for him to always stay in your hearts, and remember that smile.
Love,
Kelsey Gustafson
