JENNINGS, Lavalette Elliott Lacy, passed away on February 11, 2024, after a long struggle with frontotemporal degeneration.

She was born on January 26, 1956, in South Boston, Va. to Malcolm Baker Lacy, Jr. and to the late Marjorie Maud Creasy Lacy. She is survived by her father; her husband, of nearly 40 years, C. Foster Jennings, Jr., and their two children, Malcolm Foster Jennings and Lacy Elisabeth Jennings Khandan-Barani and husband, Benjamin. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Nancy Eppes Jennings Grey and husband, Kevin.

By all accounts, Lally's childhood was filled with many good friends, singing and dancing. She graduated from Mary Baldwin College with her degree in Biology and a Phi Beta Kappa key. Lally moved to Charlottesville to work in the clinical laboratory at UVA Medical Center, thus setting the stage to meet and captivate her future husband, Foster. She became expert at identifying diseases of white blood cells. This led to directorships of the clinical labs for UVA Primary Care and then MCV Internal Medicine after moving to Richmond. Lally later opted to be a full-time mom to her two children, becoming a frequent home room mother, chief cheerleader and carpooler. She loved supporting Mac and Lacy in all their endeavors.

Some of her favorite activities included serving on the Junior Board of Childrens Hospital and the Council of Historic Richmond, singing concerts with the Heart Strings, Circle 7 gatherings, her book clubs and bridge groups, core barre and dance classes, and any party that encouraged music and dancing.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 19, at First Presbyterian Church. A reception will follow. You are invited to honor Lally's service to her church circle with a contribution to their annual project. Donations should be written to "Presbyterian Women" with "Lally's Circle 7 Camperships" on the memo line. Contributions may be sent to First Presbyterian Church, 4602 Cary Street Road, Richmond, Va. 23226.

Foster, I am so sorry for your loss. I have such vivid memories of Lally. I was part of the "Mont Rouge" circle of friends in medical school and remember Lally as happy, bubbly and up, not to mention gorgeous. She always seemed to be in a good mood that was contagious. I am so sorry, Foster. Devastating to lose your partner and best friend. I remember fondly the innocent pleasant days of our youth in Charlottesville. Strangely, I always think of Lally when I see a reference to South Boston.

There are so many funny , sweet and treasured memories with Lally from our youthful days in Charlottesville to the fun travel

I have fond memories of sharing volunteer hours with Lally. She was so smart and always made me laugh. A beautiful person. My heart goes out to Foster and Mac and Lacy. The struggle was not an easy one and she departed way sooner than seems fair. Hugs, cheers and prayers coming your way.

Lally was such a beautiful person, inside and out. I will always remember her sparkling eyes, cute giggle and sweet voice. God took her way too soon. Thank you to Foster, Mac and Lacy for taking such wonderful care of her during her illness. She will be greatly missed.
