Robert W. B. "RB" Wade

September 17, 1950 - September 27, 2024

Robert W. B. "RB" Wade, 74, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 27, 2024. RB was born on September 17, 1950, in Richmond, VA, to the late George Henry Wade and Evelyn Meadows Wade. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Andrew Michael Wade, and his sister, Dale Hope Tyler. RB is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl Spengler Wade of Henrico; his son, Robert Lee Wade and his mother, Vicki Lee Wade, both of Chesterfield; another son, Ryan North Wade of Chesterfield; his sisters, Carol "Jackie" Pavey and Sammie Jean Hopper, both of Chesterfield; and a brother, Michael Patrick Wade of Henrico; several grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. RB served as a police officer in Washington, D.C., Petersburg, VA, and retired from the Richmond Police Department in 1999 after 25 years of service. He was a dedicated first responder with over 48 years of service as a volunteer firefighter and EMT. He served 12 years with the U.S. Naval Reserve, with the last two in the Naval Special Warfare Unit 2, Special Boat Unit 20. RB obtained a bachelor of arts, with honors, in American Military History, and later a master's degree in history with a certificate in naval warfare from American Military University. He also obtained an associate's degree in Fire Science from Reynolds Community College. RB served as a history professor at Reynolds for many years. He wrote numerous articles for Virginia Fire News Magazine, as well as authoring the book, Dawn in the Sea of Japan.

RB attended Saint Andrews Episcopal Church in Richmond for many years and his faith in Jesus Christ was unwavering.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, October 3, at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad Street. Services will be held 2 p.m., Friday, October 4, in the Mausoleum Chapel at Westhampton Memorial Park.

Professor Wade was one of the best teachers I ever had; an incredible man, and almost like a surrogate grandfather. I'llnever forget chatting with him and Cheryl and telling her all about how he referred to her as his Helen of Troy in class. I miss him every day. I re-started Dawn in the Sea of Japan last night in honor of his 75th birthday.

The world lost a great public servant, thinker, teacher, friend. I've known Bubba for almost 40 years. He was one of a kind and will be terribly missed by all that were fortunate enough to know him. Matthew 5:7 Blessed are the peacemakers; for they shall be called the children of God.

While living at the Villas of Autumn Run I enjoyed numerous chats with "RB" regarding politics, religion, education and historical events. I was always in awe of his knowledge, especially when it involved history. He shared much about his work as a firefighter, police officer, EMT, etc., all of which was fascinating. From his accounts, it was obvious that he was very dedicated to his different professions. I gleaned much from our discussions on religion. Robert was definitely a man with great faith and trust in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. My life was enriched by knowing him. My prayers go out to his family.

A legend has passed. "Bubba" Wade was a great cop and a good friend. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and most everyone who worked with him has at least one "Bubba" story. In the early 80´s he was one of the founding members of the "Church Hill Rangers." Rest in peace my friend.

Bubba and I were friends in the City. He was a great cop and passionate about his job. We reconnected in Hanover County and worked together at Station 10 and 7. He also was a great team player and was an active firefighter at many stations. We spent many nights talking about our careers and fires we responded together. He will be missed and I know he was a man of faith and is resting easy in Gods hands. God bless his family.
