Ruth Bryden Obituary

Sr. Ruth Ann Bryden returned to the Father's house after a short illness on August 1, 2005 at the age of 56 in Asmara, Eritrea (East Africa). She was a member of the Comboni Missionary Sisters for 35 years. Born in Baltimore, Md. on April 30, 1949, she is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward K. Bryden; siblings, Edward, Mark, Michael, and Robert, with their families; and other relatives. In September 1967, Sr. Ruth entered the Comboni Missionary sisters in Richmond, Va., where she received her religious training and made her religious profession in June 1970. She received a B.A. from Immaculata college and an M.A. from La Salle University. In September 1976, Sr. Ruth made her final Vows in Rome. In the course of her missionary life, Sr. Ruth served the people in various capacities and touched many lives: teaching in Uganda and Kenya; forming young religious women in the USA, Kenya, Ethiopia and Eritrea, her last assignment; doing missionary education in the USA, and through her leadership as Provincial Superior or the USA Province from 1993 to 1999. Sr. Ruth's body will be returned to Richmond. On Saturday, August 6 there will be a Mass of the Resurrection at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, beginning at 12 noon followed by interment at Mount Calvary Cemetery. From 10:30 a.m., the family and the Sisters will receive friends in the Commons. Anyone who wishes to participate is welcome. The Bryden family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Comboni Missionary Sisters, 1307 Lakeside Avenue, Richmond, Va. 23228.

We are so sorry for your loss. Sister Ruth was wonderful to work with. We know that the angels have led her to our Lord and we look forward to the day when we will be meeting her once again in the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Vic and Bettyann
