Larry Moore Obituary

Larry Allen Moore
July 29, 1947 - Aug. 1, 2012
Larry A. Moore, 65, a former resident of Vallejo, passed away from complications due to Parkinson's disease, on Aug. 1, in So. Lake Tahoe, with his family by his side. He was the son of Leonard and Betty Lanham of Vallejo, the eldest of three children. They settled in Vallejo in 1956, where Larry attended school at Steffan Manor, Pennycook, and Hogan Jr. High.
Larry was a football, basketball, and baseball standout at Hogan Sr. High School, graduating in 1965. While attending Solano College he was one of the key pitchers for coach Stan McWillams's Falcon's. Larry, a 6'4", 210 pounder fireballer, pitched semi-pro baseball in the summer of 1967 in Petaluma, CA. The following spring, Larry signed with the San Francisco Giants and reported for spring training in Casa Grande, AZ., March 20, 1968. His strong arm and size attracted the interest of numerous scouts, including the Minnesota Twins and Pittsburg Pirates. After several seasons with the Giants, he joined the Monteral Royals where he received MVP status, and offers from the Cincinnati Red Sox's and the Chicago Cubs. Unfortunately, due to a severe injury to his pitching arm, he was forced to end his baseball career.
Larry and his family settled in So. Lake Tahoe in 1985, fulfilling his childhood dream of "Living in God's Country". He worked security for many headline entertainers, including Elvis Presley, and played guitar with several local bands. Larry will be remembered for his athletic abilities and his sense of humor, which he maintained throughout his courageous battle with Parkinson's disease.
Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Lanham, and brother, Jimmy. He is survived by his wife, Camille, of 26 years; daughters, Sarah and Cassy; sons, J.D., Lee (wife, January) and Cody; numerous grandchildren, Aeris, Tami, and Lee Jr.; father, Leonard; brother, Christopher (wife, Nicole), and sister, Diana.
On Aug. 22, there will be a private graveside service with immediate family only, followed by a "Celebration of Life" for Larry at 4 p.m., at the Sugar Pine Point State Park.

Larry & I Were An Unlikely Friendship... He Was A Yr. Younger Than Me & Him At 6'4" Me At 5'6" But We Became Fast Friends At 14 &15 yrs. Old After I Faced Him In Peanut League Baseball & Stood My Ground & Almost Beat Out A Ground Ball Single... We Had Mutual Respect For Each Other After That...
Larry & I Drove His Tangerine Orange Mustang Down To Santa Cruise In The 60's & Spent A Week Bumming Around Sleeping On The Beach... He Always Had His 12 String Guitar With Him & Never A Shortage Of Female Admirers...
Larry Taught Me How To Snow Ski At Tahoe, We Went For Long Rides On Our Harley's, To Berryessa & Beyond & Just Hung Out Together... Having Fun...
He Would Push Me Physically & I Did Things I Thought I Would Never Do... For That He Made Me A Better Person... & I Will Be Forever Grateful To Him For That...
Life Took Us In Different Directions As We Became Adults... But Larry Always Remained A Friend...
The Last Time I Spoke To Him On The Phone It Was Difficult For Him To Talk Do To His Illness... So I Cut The Conversation Short...
I'll Miss You My Friend...
Thanks For The Great Memories...
Rest Easy Larry...

I got to visit with Larrry at the last class reunion. I knew he was not well then but I thought he was improving. One day I lost contact with him and felt the worst was in process. He was my go to wide reveiver on the varsity football team as well as a team mate in baseball and basketball. We spent a lot of time together and I considered him a great friend. I am so sorry for his loss and my prayers go out to his family.

Same neighborhood, attended the same schools as Larry, and remember him well. He was a good guy in every way, and a terrific athlete. I can still feel the sting of those fast balls in my glove hand from those teen years.

We missed Larry at our recent class get together. My sincere condolences to his family, especially Diana whom I also remember from way back then. May he rest in peace. Michael Freitas,

I went to jr. and senior high school with Larry, he was a good friend. I am so sorry to learn of his passing. Didn't know he guarded Elvis when he appeared in Tahoe, he was probably there when I was in the audience. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. We will all miss him.
