WILKES-BARRE TWP. — George Banashefski, 86, of Wilkes-Barre Township, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 20, 2015, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Oct. 1, 1928, in Wilkes-Barre Township, a son of the late John and Mary Kostak Banashefski. George was a graduate of Wilkes-Barre Township High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was employed at Eberhard Faber in Mountain Top.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph Andrulavage and John Banashefski; and by his sister, Elynore Banashefski.
George is survived by his wife of 57 years, Loretta Sobolewski Banashefski; children, Charlene Banashefski and her husband, Ryden, George Banashefski and his wife, Wanda, David Banashefski and his wife, Diana, Brenda Hogan and her husband, Patrick, Nazareth, Nadine Rolles and her husband, Daniel; 10 grandchildren; sisters, Marge Dorish and Mary Kish and her husband, Michael; brother, Leonard Bantel; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in Our Lady of Hope Parish, 40 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre. Family and friends are asked to go directly to the church between 9 and 9:30 a.m. Thursday. Interment will be in St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Dallas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Hope Parish, 40 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
