Jacqueline Warner Hunsicker
Jacqueline "Jackie" Warner Hunsicker, 94, of Country Meadows Assisted Living Facility, Bethlehem, formerly of Saylorsburg and Vero Beach, Florida, passed away on Nov. 21, 2024. She was the widow of Edward A. Hunsicker, who passed away on Dec. 6, 2022. They were married for 70 years at the time of Ed's death.
Born on March 15, 1930 in Allentown, she was a daughter of the late Wilbur G. and Laura M. (Kutz) Warner, whom she always described as "the best parents anyone could have had."
She grew up in Lehighton and was a 1947 graduate of Lehighton High School. During her high school years, she was active in the Art Club, a BPW representative, Candy Stand, Dramatics Club, flag twirler, Girls Chorus, Gym Club, Gym Team, Interclass and Intramural Basketball, Library Club, Press Club, Rotary representative, Victory Corp and Yearbook Club. Jackie was also a drum majorette.
Jackie attended Cedar Crest College, Allentown, for her freshman year of college, and transferred to Penn State University for her remaining college years, where she was a member of Chimes, Lion Party (publicity committee), Marketing Club, Players, secretary of Chi Theta, Thespians, vice president of Masquerettes, and president of the Phi Mu Sorority. She received an Award of Merit for her participation in the All-College Cabinet in 1951, and she was listed in the Who's Who in the News at Penn State in 1951.
Jackie graduated in 1951 with a bachelor's degree in Commerce and Finance, and was a lifelong Penn State football supporter and donor to Penn State Athletics, as well as the Pattee and Paterno Library.
She and her late husband moved to Stroudsburg in 1962, when Ed became the manager of the Eastern Penn Supply Co. Inc. In 1965, Jackie was a co-founder with her late husband and an officer (treasurer) of the Best Supply Co. Inc., Stroudsburg. They owned the Best Supply Co. Inc. for over 30 years.
Previously, she was an office manager for the Lehighton Cable Co., an office manager at Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton, which her father co-founded, a clerk at Cohen's Department Store and a clerk at the U.S. Post Office, Lehighton.
Jackie was a world traveler, an avid reader, bridge player and collector of antiques, especially flow blue china. She was skilled at interior decorating as her former home, the Trach-Hunsicker House, would attest.
She was a member of Christ Hamilton Lutheran Church, Stroudsburg, and also a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Vero Beach, where she had a beach-front condominium for over 40 years.
Jackie was a member and past treasurer of the Old Mill Restoration Council, Sciota. She was a member of the AAUW Pocono branch and the Vero Beach branch.
She was a past president of the Pocono Mountains Penn State Alumni Club, a member of the Penn State President's Club and the Nittany Lion Club as an "Honorary Coach." She has an engraved brick in the Bryce Jordan Center for her donations to that facility, and she has a commemorative brick in the Alumni Courtyard of the Penn State Alumni Association for her generosity to that association. She was also a past treasurer of the Phi Mu Sorority Alumni Chapter, Vero Beach.
Jackie is survived by her daughter, Dr. Sara J. Hunsicker Cornell (Lawrence) of Bear Creek Township; three grandchildren, Anthony and his wife, Samantha (Regensburger) Camaerei of Jupiter, FL, Allyson Camaerei of Bear Creek Township, and Alex and his wife, Cassandra (Briggs) Camaerei of Kunkletown; and four great-grandsons, Giovanni and Rocco Camaerei of Jupiter, and Atlas and Roman Camaerei of Kunkletown. She is also survived by a nephew, Stuart Juppenlatz (Veronica) of Lebanon.
She was predeceased by her husband; parents; sister, Jane (Warner) Juppenlatz and her husband, John W. "Jack" Juppenlatz Jr.; a niece, Claire Juppenlatz Lundberg; and nephew and godson, David Juppenlatz.
Services: A viewing and service will be held on Friday, Nov. 29 in the Andrew P. Ovsak Funeral Home, 190 S. Fourth St., Lehighton, with Pastor Jami Possinger officiating. Call 10-11 a.m., followed by the service. Her late husband's ashes will be buried with her at the Lehighton Cemetery after the service.
