Jimmy Turner Obituary

Jim Turner, age 58, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family, Thursday, May 4, 2006, after a courageous 2 year battle with lung cancer. He was born May 8, 1947, in Tazewell, Tennessee, to Buster and Harriett (Pierce) Turner, where he was a member of Clouds Church.
After attending East Tennessee State University, he relocated to Northwest Ohio with his brother, Larry. He worked for many years for Monroe Steel Castings and later was a foreman for Benckiser Products for 19 years and served as Local Union President of the Oil, Chemical & Atomic Workers Union for over ten years. Prior to his death, he was employed by Arkema, Inc., retiring in 2005.
Though he spent most of his adult life in Ohio, Jim always remained connected to his Tennessee roots and his upbringing in the "hollers" of Claiborne County. He had a lifelong love for country music, having been taught to play the guitar as a child by his mother. He, along with his brother, formed the Pacesetters band in the mid 1970's where Jim was a songwriter and lead singer. The Pacesetters were well known to country music fans throughout Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan, playing numerous clubs and releasing the album, "Look Inside My Heart" in 1991.
Jim was an avid bowler for over 30 years carrying an average in the 190s throughout most of that time. With his sons, he bowled in many leagues in Monroe and Toledo.
Jim was a kind and gentle Southern gentleman who will be missed greatly by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Dever); sons, Jimmie, Jr. (Gail), Johnnie, Jeffrey (Teresa), and Rory; brothers, Larry (Sue), Eddie (Debbie), Glen (Michelle) and Darrell (Annette); his father, Buster; his beloved granddaughters, Mariah, Sierrah, Feliciah and Dakotah, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother, Harriett; his sister, Darlene and father-in-law, Tim Dever.
The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their care and understanding during this difficult time.
Friends may call Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 West Sylvania Ave. Services will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 11:00 a.m. with interment at Resurrection Cemetery. Donations can be made in Jim's name to either Central Catholic High School or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.

My heart and sympathy go out to all of Jim's family and friends. I know Jim had a million friends.I no longer live in the area, having moved to Florida years ago. I just lost my husband to cancer in January. He was the same age as Jim with their birthdays only a few days apart. In this time of sorrow, keep your faith in God and know you will see Jim again in the next life. Sincerely, Eva Stobinski
