Keith Young Obituary

PENNINGTON Keith Allen Young was born July 12, 1967 at Choctaw General Hospital in Butler, Alabama. He is the son of Billie Jean Young and Willie James Rackley. He is a member of the Choctaw County High School class of 1985. Keith played football in high school and at East Mississippi Jr. College (1985-87) and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science Degree at Jackson State University in 1990. He returned home to teach at Choctaw County High School where he served as coordinator of the history division for ten years. Keith is a member of the Alpha Beta Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma fraternity and a first term City Council member in Pennington, Alabama. He passed away June 2, 2010.

Keith is survived by a doting grandmother, Mrs. Susie M. Young, who raised him; his mother, Billie Jean Young of Marion, Alabama; his father, Willie James Rackley of Butler, Alabama; two sons, Jarkeith Ruffin of Laverne, Tennessee and Malachi Dubose of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; and eight siblings, Anthony Young, Scottie Rackley, Anthony Williams, Darius Rackley, Kelvin Rackley, Leonardo Chaney, Chardick Coleman, and Angie Rackley.

In an interview with his mother on December 30, 2009, Keith shared some of his philosophy on life: “…I attribute to my Mama who I am today, how I handle my own life. Mama (is) a great ambassador and diplomat…I attribute to Mama the way I deal with people today because I learned about life from her, Mama dealt with all kinds of people. That is why I can live in Pennington, Alabama today and survive, and live my life. Mama taught you about taking nothing and making something happen. She would say, “It's just life, baby. You got to live your life. You make mistakes, you just go on. That's life.” (Keith A. Young, from: Now, How You Do? A Memoir, 2010)

Services for Pennington, Alabama Town Councilmember, Keith Allen Young, 42, will be held Saturday, June 12, 2010, at high noon, at Choctaw County High School (gymtorium) 277 Tom Orr Drive, Butler, Alabama 36904. Visitation will be at Weatherly-Studdard Memorial Chapel on Friday, June 11, 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial expressions may be sent to the Keith Allen Young Memorial Fund at 302 East Lafayette Street, Marion, Alabama in care of Billie Jean Young.

To my classmate and my friend, CAREBEAR! Words can not say how much I miss you, your friendship, kind words, smile, your pimp, just you. I will always have a special place in my heart, having class meeting are very difficult now because so many times I want to ask the question "Is Keith coming to this meeting?", but that is a question that the answer will always be "YES", your spirit is there and you will never leave our side. You served your duty as Class President with gladness, and we will forever move forward with the leadership you gave us. God gave us a precious gift in you, and we love you, but God love you Best. Loved by many, missed by many, forever in our heart. LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU, MY FOREVER CAREBEAR. Your classmate(Choctaw County High School Class of 1985)and forever friend, Cynthia Traylor Williams

My sweet cousin (brother as you were)words can't begin to say how much I miss you. Your smile, those kind words you had for all, your peaceful presence that made talking and laughing with you the best part of my visit home. Visiting Alabama will never be the same. I love you so, but God loves you move and he needed a bright star to shine in his name. I know you are at peace now and looking down on all of us who loved you. I thank God for you and your mother and father for sharing you with us. Forever your Sister, Toosie.

We have lost a great man, mentor, son, grandson, nephew, cousin, brother, father, friend, coach, classmate, soundman, master chef, hunter, athlete, teacher, historian, councilman, neighbor and Christian.

“That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.” (Ecclesiastes 3:15)

Whether the sun rises or sets, whether the wind blows are peace be still, whether seasons come and go it has been my true honor to have lived, loved, prayed and laughed with you!
