John Jaeger encouraged the Fielding Fellows at Gettysburg College to reach for the moon. We will always be grateful for having him in our lives. Not only was he a giant of a man professionally, but always continued his mentoring of a new generation. He will be deeply missed. Having known John since moving into the neighborhood 15 years ago, and also knowing Karen too as a good friend, John was simply a wonderful, witty, smart and generous person. He was a joy to be around and had a fantastic sense of humor. I would often see him driving by while I was walking my dogs (whether on his way to work or home), and he would always stop, always tell me I need to "work harder....and not from home", always share a smile and joke or a bit of news, and he simply was a tremendous person. In addition, as everyone knows, he was a great contributor to the community through his work and outstanding charitable giving. I was very lucky to know him and will miss him a lot. Even when I saw him right before Christmas, he was not at all morose or sad. He was, instead, interested in the presidential election and asked me about my family and work. He maintained his positive outlook on life even when he was ill and I am so glad I had the chance to visit with him one more time. This shows his strength of character. I wish his family comfort at this difficult time and also hope John rests in peace. John will surely be missed but his life was a blessing and inspiration to us all.

In loving memory of a wonderful person. Mr. Jaeger blessed me immensely as a high schooler. He sponsored my first internship at NIH that led to an abundance of lifetime opportunities!
