Miriam Webber

Miriam (Pentinen) Webber, a native of Wellfleet, passed away on May 14, 2011, in Melbourne, Fla., following a lengthy illness. She was 86. Mrs. Webber was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Bernard C. Webber, Sr.; her son, Bernard C. Webber, Jr.; sisters Gertrude P. Benner and Lillian P. Schuester; and parents Otto and Olga Pentinen. Born on April 30, 1925, in the family home on Cross Street in Wellfleet, Miriam, a daughter of Finnish immigrants, came of age along the shores of Cape Cod. As a girl, she sang in the choir of the local Methodist Church and was graduated from Wellfleet High School in 1943. Miriam was also a proud graduate of Vermont College. Miriam is remembered for her intelligence, grace and kindness, her keen sense of humor, and a soft laughter that lit up any room she entered. Miriam steadfastly supported her husband, Bernard "Bernie" Webber, who had a distinguished career in the United States Coast Guard and was a recipient of the Gold Lifesaving Medal. Following Bernie's retirement Miriam and Bernie lived in North Eastham for many years and cherished their time on Cape Cod before moving to Melbourne, Fla. Mrs. Webber is survived by her devoted daughter, Patricia (Webber) Hamilton of Shamong, N.J. and North Eastham; son-in-law USAF Colonel Bruce Hamilton and their daughters Hilary and Leah; and grandson, Shane, son of Bernard C. Webber, Jr. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 10, at 11 a.m., at the Methodist Church of Wellfleet followed by an interment of ashes at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Wellfleet.
