Richard Carr Obituary

Richard Charles Carr passed away, June 3, 2017 at home in Beverly, blocks from the Goat Hill neighborhood where he grew up. Dick was a standout athlete at Beverly High School and earned a football scholarship to Columbia University, where he continued to excel in athletics. Known as the Iron Man, he played every minute of every game during the 1953 season, on offense as quarterback and defense as free safety. Upon graduation, Dick brought his quarterback skills to McGill University in Montreal, where he continued starring on the gridiron while completing dental school. During this time, he met his future bride, Maureen. After turning down an offer to attend the Green Bay Packers training camp, the newlyweds settled into Air Force life at Andrews AFB in the Washington DC area, and later, returned to Massachusetts, moving to Topsfield to raise their family. Dick established a long and successful dental practice in his hometown of Beverly. Upon retirement, the Carrs moved to Homosassa FL where they enjoy ed old and new friends and many rounds of golf. Dick returned to Beverly in 2014 to be closer to family. He is preceded in death by Maureen (2006) and is survived by his children: Cathy (Ryan Rickarby), Cheryl (Paul Loughlin), Rick, Colleen (Larry McGrail) and grandchildren: Carly, Kirstin, & Chas Rickarby; Colleen, Erin & Cam Loughlin & Quinn McGrail, as well as his brother Jack Carr, of Beverly. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for and supported Dick, especially Phyllis (Sandy) Tonneson. Arrangements: Dicks wishes to cherish the memories of his life in private will be respected. He was able to celebrate his life with family and friends at an Irish/Italian pre-wake in March. A private family burial will take place in Topsfield at a future date.

A really great man and an awesome boss. I had the pleasure of
Assisting him from 1968 until 1972 when I had my first son.

He was a fantastic dentist and fun jokester.

He once told me, when I asked a question that I thought was stupid,
that the only stupid question was the one not asked.

My sincere condolences to his family.
